Start with the slot, not the ticket
The price depends only on whether you enter before or after 15:00, so the real choice is the time of day. Sunset is what most people want and what sells out first — the sunset page lists the exact time for each month and the slot to aim for. Late evening entries up to 21:20 cost the same as any post-15:00 ticket and are far easier to book. Mornings are the cheapest and the quietest.
Guided tours that include the admission
Tour operators hold their own allocation, which is why a tour can be booked months ahead for a date when public tickets do not exist yet. That is the real reason to consider one. Check the inclusions rather than the title: several tours named after Shibuya Sky include only a guide. Each page below says plainly whether admission is covered.

The fourteen-day release, and what to do when you miss it
Slots appear fourteen days before entry, at midnight Japan Standard Time — 15:00 the previous afternoon in London, 11:00 in New York. If your slot is gone, three things work: take the window an hour earlier and stay on the roof through sunset; buy at the counter on the day for 300 yen more, subject to availability; or book a tour that holds its own allocation.

Adult admission at 2,700 yen is cheapest direct from the operator, but there is no English version of the ticket page. The English URLs people share return the site's not-found page with a 200 status, so a link can look live and be nothing. An English resale platform or a tour is the practical route if you do not read Japanese.
The weather risk, stated once
The open-air rooftop closes for wind, lightning, rain and extreme heat. When it does, the indoor gallery on level 46 stays open, and neither the ticket nor a tour containing it is refunded. Book early in your trip rather than on the last evening, so a washed-out visit can be repeated.
Children
Children's tickets are sold only at the counter, on the day of admission, and under-5s go free. The 12-plus minimum shown on some booking platforms is a limit on what that platform can sell online, not a minimum age for the attraction. Book the adults' slot online, buy the children's on arrival.
